நண்பனா? எதிரியா? முடிவு செய்

..

சிறு கதை .. Short story

அந்தக் கிராமத்தில் ஒரு ஏழை விவசாயி இருந்தான்.

There was a poor farmer in a village.

 அவனுக்கு பக்கத்து வீட்டில் ஒரு வேட்டைக்காரன் இருந்தான்.

There lived a hunter next to his house.

வேட்டைக்காரனிடம் அவன் வேட்டைக்கு பயன்படுத்தும் வேட்டை நாய்கள் சில இருந்தன.

The hunter had a few dogs that he used for hunting.

வேட்டைக்காரனின் நாய்கள் அடிக்கடி வேலி தாண்டி சென்று விவசாயியின் ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளை துரத்துவதும் கடித்து குதறுவதும் இருந்தன.

Frequently, the hunter's dogs used to cross the fence and chase and attack  or maul  the farmer's goats.

இதனால் கலக்கமுற்ற விவசாயி தன் அண்டைவீட்டுக்காரனான வேட்டைக்காரனை சந்தித்து...

The farmer was worried about this. Hence he met the hunter and said ..

 “அப்பா… உன் நாய்களை கொஞ்சம் பார்த்துக்கொள். அவை அடிக்கடி என் பகுதிக்கு வந்து ஆடுகளை தாக்குகின்றன. காயப்படுத்துகின்றன” என்றான்.

"Friend, please control your dogs. They frequently come to my place and attack my goats."

வேட்டைக்காரன் அதை சட்டை செய்யவேயில்லை. செவிடன் காதில் ஊதிய சங்காக அவை எந்த பயனும் இன்றி போனது.

The hunter did not care for his words. It was like a song in a deaf man's ears.

ஒரு முறை நாய்கள் இதே போல வேலி தாண்டி வந்து பட்டிக்குள் புகுந்து பல ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளை கடித்துக் குதறின.

As usual, once the dogs crossed and attacked and mauled his goats.

இந்த முறை இரண்டில் ஒன்று பார்த்துவிடுவது என்று மீண்டும் வேட்டைக்காரனிடம் புகார் செய்ய சென்றான் விவசாயி.

 Having decided to find a solution to his problem that day at any cost,  the farmer went to complain to the hunter.

வேட்டைக்காரன் இந்த முறை சற்று கோபத்துடன்,

This time the hunter got a bit angry and said ..

“இதோ பார்… ஆட்டை துரத்துறது கடிக்கிறது இதெல்லாம் நாயோட சுபாவம். அதுக்கெல்லாம் நான் ஒன்னும் செய்யமுடியாது. உன்னால முடிஞ்சதை பார்த்துக்கோ” என்றான்.

"Hey look here. It is the nature of a dog to chase or bit goats. I can do nothing about that. Do whatever you want to do."

இதைத் தொடர்ந்து ஊர் பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவரை சென்று சந்தித்த விவசாயி, வேட்டைக்காரனின் நாய்களால் தான் படும் துன்பத்தை எடுத்துக்கூறி, அவன் மீது ஏதேனும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டான்.

Following this, the farmer met the village chief and explained the problem he faced due to the hunter's dogs. And then requested him to take suitable action.

முன்பொரு முறை பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவரின் மகளை ஒரு சிறிய விபத்திலிருந்து விவசாயி காப்பாற்றியிருப்பதால் பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவருக்கு விவசாயி மீது பெரும் மதிப்பு உண்டு.

The village chief had some respect for the farmer due to the fact that he had once saved the life of his daughter, a few years ago.

விவசாயிக்கும் வேட்டைக்காரனுக்கும் இடையே உள்ள பிணக்கை பற்றி விசாரித்து தெரிந்துகொண்ட பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவர்,

The village chief enquired and thoroughly understood the enmity between the two persons.

“என்னால் பஞ்சயாத்தை கூட்டச் செய்து அந்த வேட்டைக்காரனை தண்டித்து, அபராதம் விதித்து அவன் நாய்களை கட்டிப்போடச் செய்ய முடியும்.

"I can call for a public hearing, punish and fine the hunter. And also order him to chain his dogs.

ஆனால், நீ தேவையின்றி இதனால் ஒரு எதிரியை சம்பாதிக்க நேரிடும்.

But unnecessarily you will have to earn an enemy.

உனக்கு அது சொந்த வீடு. அவனுக்கும் அது சொந்த வீடு. இருவரும் ஒருவர் முகத்தை ஒருவர் தினசரி பார்க்கவேண்டும்.

Both of you own houses. Hence as neighbours you will have to daily met each other.

அப்படியிருக்கையில் பக்கத்துவீட்டுக்காரன் நண்பனாக இருப்பதில் உனக்கு விருப்பமா அல்லது எதிரியாக இருப்பதில் விருப்பமா?”

At such a situation, do you want a friend as your neighbour or an enemy?"

பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவர் சொல்வதில் உள்ள யதார்த்தத்தை புரிந்து கொண்ட விவசாயி, அண்டை வீட்டுக்காரனை ஒரு நண்பனாக பார்ப்பதில் தான் தனக்கு விருப்பம் என்றான்.

Having understood the point highlighted by the village chief, the farmer said that he wanted a friend as his neighbour.

“சரி… உன் ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளும் பத்திரமாக இருப்பது போலவும் அவனும் உன் நண்பனாக இருப்பது மாதிரியும் நான் ஒரு தீர்வை சொல்கிறேன்… கேட்பாயா?”

"Okay, then I will suggest an idea for this problem. It will both make your goats safe and also turn your neighbour as your friend. Will your follow that?"

“நீங்கள் எதைச் சொன்னாலும் கேட்கிறேன்”

"I will obey whatever you say" the farmer agreed.

அடுத்து பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவர் சில விஷயங்களை அவரிடம் சொன்னார்.

After that the village chief told a few points to him.

வீட்டுக்கு வந்த விவசாயி பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவர் தன்னிடம் சொன்ன விஷயங்களை பரீட்சித்து பார்க்க முற்பட்டான்.

He returned home and thought about the points told by the chief.

தனது பட்டியில் இருக்கும் ஆட்டு குட்டிகளிலேயே மிகவும் அழகான இரண்டு குட்டிகளை எடுத்துச் சென்று, வேட்டைக்காரனின் இரண்டு மகன்களுக்கும் தலா ஒரு குட்டி விளையாட பரிசளித்தான்.

He selected two beautiful kids from  his flock of goats and gifted one to each of the two sons of the hunter.

குழந்தைகளுக்கு தாங்கள் விளையாட புதிய தோழர்கள் கிடைத்ததில் ஒரே குஷி. இருவரும் அந்த குட்டிகளுடன் விளையாடி மகிழ்ந்தார்கள்.

The children were very happy to get a new play-mate. They started playing with the kids.

தன் குழந்தைகளின் புதிய தோழர்களை பாதுக்காக்க, தற்போது வேட்டைக்காரன், நாய்களை சங்கலியில் கட்டிப்போட வேண்டியிருந்தது.

In order to protect the play-mates of his sons, the hunter was forced to chain his dogs.

 யாரும் சொல்லாமலே அவன் நாய்களை சங்கிலியால் பிணைத்தான்.

Without anyone telling him to chain his dogs he did it.

தனது மகன்களுக்கு விவசாயி ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகள் பரிசளித்ததை தொடர்ந்து பதிலுக்கு அவனுக்கு ஏதேனும் பரிசளிக்க விரும்பி, தான் காட்டிலிருந்து கொண்டு வந்த சில அரிய பொருட்களை பரிசளித்தான் வேட்டைக்காரன்.

To reciprocate the good intensions of the farmer, the hunter too gifted him with some rare things that he got from the forest.

ஆக இருவருக்குள்ளும் நல்லுறவு வளர்ந்து நாளடைவில் நல்ல நண்பர்களாகிவிட்டனர்.

Hence, day-by-day their friendship started to grow and they became thick friends.

மேற்கூறிய கதை அன்றாடம் பலருக்கு நடப்பது தான்.
பிரச்சனை தான் வேறு வேறு.

The above story may also happen daily in our lives. Only the problem may be different.

நம்மிடம் நியாயம் இருக்கிறது என்பதற்காகவோ, நம்மிடம் வலிமை இருக்கிறது என்பதற்காகவோ வீணாக எதிரிகளை சம்பாதித்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடாது.

Just because justice is on our side, we should not earn enemies.

ஆடுகள் முக்கியம் தான்.
ஆனால் அதைவிட மனஅமைதி முக்கியமல்லவா.......???

Of course, the goats are important, but dont you think that "PEACE OF MIND" is more precious?
